George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron ( January 22, 1788 – April 19, 1824 ), known in Greece as Lord Byron. The events for centenary of Lord Byron's death, began in Athens on April 16 and culminated three days later, on the 19th, in Messolonghi the city where the romantic poet lived in the last months of his life. On April 19, 1924, Messolonghi Postal
Office used violet commemorative cancellation, in Athens was used ordinary postal datestamp.
