Note: Η Διοίκηση Πρωτευούσης (ορθότερα Διοίκησις Πρωτευούσης), που αναφέρεται και σήμερα ως τέως Διοίκηση Πρωτευούσης, ήταν ιδία διοικητική περιφέρεια του Νομού Αττικής, κατά θέση υπουργείου, που φερόταν υπό ίδιο υπουργό - διοικητή Πρωτευούσης. Η
Διοικητική αυτή περιφέρεια δημιουργήθηκε επί δικτατορίας Μεταξά.

Ο θεσμός της Διοίκησης της Πρωτευούσης διατηρήθηκε ουσιαστικά μέχρι της κατάληψης της Αττικής από τους Γερμανούς το 1941. Καθ΄ όλη τη διάρκεια της λειτουργίας της υπουργός - διοικητής Πρωτευούσης διετέλεσε ο τότε δήμαρχος Αθηναίων Κωνσταντίνος Κοτζιάς, ο οποίος προηγουμένως είχε παραιτηθεί του δημαρχιακού αξιώματος. Μετά την απελευθέρωση όλες οι διοικητικές αλλαγές, νομαρχιακές και δημοτικές, που έχουν σημειωθεί επ΄ αυτής, μέχρι σήμερα, κάνουν αναφορά στην τέως Διοίκηση Πρωτευούσης.

The institution of the Administration of the Capital was practically preserved until the occupation of Attica by the Germans in 1941 . Throughout its operation, the then mayor of Athens , Konstantinos Kotzias , who had
previously resigned from the mayoral position, served as the minister-commander of Capital. After the liberation, all the administrative changes, prefectural and municipal, that have taken place on it, until today, refer to the former Capital Administration.)
